A young woman thought it would be a good idea to take a selfie with two friends while a medic stitched her up after she was stabbed by a robber.

Naomie Greenslade, 22, was walking home from a night out with friends in Marrakesh, Morocco when a robber attacked her and tried to steal her bag, which only had 13 pence in it.

When Greenslade wouldnt give the man her bag, he struck her with a butcher knife from her hip to her thigh.

The attack left Greenslade with an extremely large gash on her left side, which spanned two inches wide and 12 inches long. Her attacker tried to stab her in the chest, but she was able to dodge the first attempt.

Greenslades awful stab wound happened in the walled city, a popular tourist destination in Morocco, and required over 20 stitches, from hip to thigh. The alleged robber was charged with the attempted murder of Greenslade on Saturday.

Greenslade said she was with friends when her attacker approached and even heard her friends shouting before it happened.

"We were walking at normal speed and chatting. We were not intoxicated and there were three guys with us so you'd think you are safe but these guys out here don't care. I knew he wanted my bum bag which I had around my waist. I refused to give it to him. He tried to plunge the knife into my chest but I managed to jump back. But he slashed me."

Greenslade said it all happened so fast and was thankful  she was with friends who were able to comfort her until medical help arrived.

"I didn't realize I had been hurt. I looked down and my bag was ripped off me. Everything fell on the floor - make-up, my phone, my purse which had the equivalent of about 13p in it.

I began feeling very faint and slumped to the floor. The guys took their tops off and wrapped my leg up tight - they kept me awake until the ambulance arrived."

Greenslade, who is originally from South Wales, said she wont be going home following her attack and will continue to follow her dream.

"I came out here to work with orphans and I have managed to visit a baby centre despite my injuriesI don't want to be beaten by this attack but it has knocked my confidence. I wont be coming back to Morrocco."

Greenslade also said that if she were in another situation like this she still wouldn't give up her personal possessions.

"I refused to give it to him. It had my phone in with all the irreplaceable pictures from my trip. There was no way I would hand it over."

Greenslade was extremely courageous and awfully lucky to survive such a gruesome attack.
