NOKOMIS (FOX 13) -
Isn't rule number one of burglary, don't get caught inside?
Apparently Dion Davis didn't get the memo.
Homeowner John Robert Wotring was out of town when Davis allegedly bungled the burglary this week.
"He took this metal can I had here, which contains all the jewelry so to speak. This was on the floor that was over there and he was laying down there sleeping," Wotring said. "All the trays and everything and all the silver and junk were out, he lined everything up on the floor.
The cleaning lady was the first to find him, sleeping like a baby.
"She saw the legs and thought maybe I had died she came in here and oh...and tip toed out and dialed 911," he said.
Sarasota County deputies came and say Davis was still snoozin'. They snapped a picture for evidence before hauling him off.
"I have to think he might have been under the influence," said Wendy Rose with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
"I couldn't believe it. Again, I think it's funny that it could happen," Wotring said. "I got all my stuff, thanks to a lucky break."
And it gives new meaning to the phrase, you snooze you lose!
