I’d assume that most parking garage gates are designed to resist the force of a moving vehicle, although I haven’t had a chance to see if that’s actually the case. (I’m not counting the one scene from “Die Hard.”)
However, if this surveillance footage is to be believed, those gates are fantastic at stopping cars and even better at occasionally lifting them onto two wheels. I’m assuming the guy wearing nothing but boxers behind the steering wheel wasn’t expecting that to happen.
According to MBL, the incident occurred at the Höfðatorg Tower in Reykjavík, Iceland, in July 2011, but a source said it wasn’t released until now due to legal issues. It’s estimated that the damage ran between 5 and 6 million krona, which would put the bill between $40,000 and $50,000.
The best part? Despite the person in the video literally flying in the air after trying to stop the gate with her body, nobody was injured in the incident.
There’s no confirmation that alcohol was involved, but it probably was.
