When life throws us curveballs, we can’t run and hide. We have to trudge on, accept life for what it is and move forward.
But sometimes, that isn’t so easy — pain and suffering hold us back. Yet, there is a certain tragic beauty in pain and sadness that’s hard to understand if you’ve never experienced it yourself.
This video may shed some light.
In the video, new father Chris Picco softly sings The Beatles’ “Blackbird” to his newborn son, Lennon, in the Intensive Care Unit.
At 24 weeks pregnant, Chris’ wife Ashley died suddenly in her sleep, resulting in an emergency C-section to save the premature infant. But Lennon, too, was dying.
Picco serenaded Lennon in honor of his late wife, who would often feel the baby moving when the couple played music for him.
Sadly, the newborn died at just 4 days old, shortly after his father sang him the lullaby.
In honor of Ashley and Lennon, Picco set up a memorial fund
to cover medical expenses that he now has to face alone.
While heartbreaking and tragic, Picco’s private concert for newborn Lennon is also unexpectedly beautiful. From this, we should take the positive: Beauty can be found in even the saddest of moments.
We offer our deepest condolences to Chris Picco and his family.
