A pair of sisters being called the “Rohtak Bravehearts” dealt out punishment to three men who’d been harassing them on a bus in Haryana, India.
Video from the ride shows the students, Pooja Kumar, 19, and Arti, 22, beating men with their belts. The girls allegedly endured obscenities, touches and sexual gestures from the men before the recording began.
When the group began harassing a pregnant woman on board, the Kumars put an end to it. While the men tried to physically hold the girls down, they fought back.
Viewers have been quick to point out no one on the bus moved to help the sisters, even when the altercation became violent. Onlookers even tried to stop the sisters
from pressing charges.
The pair, who’d been riding from Rohtak to Sonipat, are slated to receive monetary rewards
for their bravery from the Haryana government.
Rajesh Kumar, the girls’ father, told the press he’s impressed with their actions.
The Telegraph reports the three men were arrested later in the evening
, charged with “assault or criminal force with intent to outrage woman’s modesty” and “voluntarily causing hurt.”
Government officials have been quick to request the state’s transportation department step up its safety standards. Both the bus driver and conductor have been suspended for failing to defend the women onboard.
